At the close of the 2008 Sooner Volleyball season, Coach Restrepo and his family faced a
serious challenge. His youngest son, Javier (Javi) continued his fight against leukemia, and in October he underwent a
bone marrow transplant. His big brother, Diegeo, was his donor. In January 09 he also had a liver transplant.
Both were successful and Javi was continuing his recovery. Visit the website linked below to read more of Javi's brave fight
with leukemia which ended July 31st, and please sign the Guest Book. http://COTAforJavierR.com/

Javi "Sports Day" at the University of Oklahoma
| Santiago cheers Javi's "dunk" |

|
It was a day when OU student-athletes and coaches
went out of their way to make Javi feel special. For the morning, he was the star of the Sooner Football Team, Baseball Team,
Men's & Women's Basketball Teams, and Soccer Team.
He scored a touchdown on the back of Sooner, after taking the
handoff from Heisman Trophy Winner Sam Bradford. Other players to cheer him on included: Gerald McCoy, Jermaine Gresham, Brody
Eldridge, Auston English, Mossis Madu, Brandon Caleb, Jandry Jones, and Mike Knall.
He hit a home run with the help
of his dad and baseball standouts Ryan Duke, Garrett Buechele, and Jeremy Erben.
He dunked a basketball on the shoulders
of Orlando Allen, and passed for several assists to Ryan Wright, Beau Gerber and Orlando.
He was shown ball handling
drills from Whitney Hand, and free throw fundamentals from Abby Olajuwon and Joanna McFarland. Carolyn Winchester gave him
several autographed items from the women's team as well.
Finally, Javi scored a goal on the soccer field with the
help of the entire women's soccer team. Many of these women had visited Javi in the hospital the week before, so it was a
reunion of sorts that included the team giving Javi a soccer backpack full of candy, about which he and Diego were both quite
excited.
All the while, Boomer and Sooner accompanied Javi, riding in his car with him from site to site, and bridging
the gap between familiar and unfamiliar. These guys were amazing - so giving of their time and energy...even remaining capable
of doing backflips for Javi at Soccer, after a long morning of high energy entertaining.
It was a wonderful morning
for all - thank you, OU Family for being the generous, loving people you are!
